Why should I lock an instance and how can I do it?

You cannot execute administrative actions such as deleting, resizing, shutting down, or pausing an instance while it is locked. It is always advisable to lock an instance while you are not working on it so that unintentional actions like deleting and resizing cannot be performed.

Follow the below steps to learn how you can lock an instance:

Step 1: Login to your account.

Step 2: Navigate to the Services section and click on My Services.

Step 3: Click on your project.

Step 4: Navigate to Compute and then click on Instances.

Step 5: Choose your instance and click on the drop-down button.

Step 6: Choose Lock Instance from the drop-down menu.

You will get a message "Success: Locked Instance: Instance1." To unlock it follow the same steps and click on Unlock Instance.
